FSU Linebacker Ethan Pritchard in Critical Condition After Shooting

Florida State University freshman linebacker Ethan Pritchard is fighting for his life after being shot in the back of the head while driving his aunt home from a family gathering in Havana, Florida. The incident occurred just after 10 p.m. on Sunday, August 31, near the Havana Heights Apartments, about 25 minutes from FSU’s campus.

According to his father, Earl Pritchard, the two had just turned a corner when gunfire erupted. Ethan was found wounded inside the vehicle and rushed to a Tallahassee-area hospital, where he remains sedated in the ICU. Doctors are monitoring swelling in his brain before assessing the full extent of the damage.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is leading the investigation in coordination with the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office and the State Attorney’s Office. No suspects have been named publicly, and the motive remains unclear.

Pritchard, a standout recruit from Seminole High School in Sanford, Florida, had recently joined the Seminoles and did not play in the season opener against Alabama. FSU head coach Mike Norvell visited the hospital and expressed support for Ethan and his family, calling the event “an extremely tragic moment” for the team.

A fundraising campaign has already raised over $80,000 to support Ethan’s medical care. The community, teammates, and fans continue to rally around the young athlete, hoping for his recovery.
